About Tab Benoit
Hailing from Houma, Louisiana, Tab Benoit
spent his early days in the blues mecca of Baton Rouge, playing alongside various great blues rockers including Henry Gray
and Tabby Thomas. He would eventually break out from under the wings of his longtime mentors and form various blues groups,
bringing his ever changing sound to various venues around New Orleans and Baton Rouge. His unique charisma and music style
would earn him accolades throughout the south, and it wasn't long until Tab was representing the unique swamp blues style
all across the country.
Tab bounced around between various labels in his early years, landing his first big contract
with Justice Records in the early 90s. Over the course of the decade Tab continued to wade through the blues landscape, refining
his ability to connect his signature style of blues to wider and wider audiences. By the end of the 90s Benoit had switched
to Vanguard records and appeared on a collaboration album with fellow avant musicians Kenny Neal and Debbie Davies. Tab would
realize that he was at his most creative when working with other like minded individuals, and would go on to collaborate with
artists such as Tommy Shannon and Jimmy Thackery.
Benoit continued to build momentum as he worked with a wide and varying
spectrum of musicians, while simultaneously using the energy from his collaborative sessions to record various solo albums.
By the mid 2000s Tab was a household name in the swamp blues movement and was on an unstoppable heater of good vibes, good
times, and great music. His work would be featured across various mediums including film and television series', and he would
receive a Grammy nomination for his work alongside fellow rocker Louisiana LeRoux.
Life would not stop getting better
for Tab as he would be showered with accolades throughout the last ten years. Amongst his list of recognitions is an Entertainer
of the Year award bestowed by the Blues Music Awards; Induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame (no small feat, considering
Louisiana's prominence in the blues and folk scene); three back to back Blues Music Awards wins in 2012; and one more in 2013.
Benoit has released eighteen full length albums to date, making him one of the most prolific and
consistent writers and performers still active today. Whether you're sampling from his rawest tunes that date back twenty
years ago or more, including Nice and Warm and Homesick for the Road, or his middle and late greats that include albums like
Whiskey Store, Sea Saint Sessions, and Medicine, the Tab Benoit discography is chalk full of timeless hits and bravely unique
Tab has spent considerable amounts of his time and resources on conservation
efforts for Louisiana Wetlands. Aside from being an influential part of non profit awareness group Voice of the Wetlands,
Benoit also authored the album 'Wetlands' which was partly inspired by this iconic component of the Louisiana landscape.
