Tacoma Dome History
Ever since it first opened up back in 1983, the Tacoma Dome has been a major staple of the
sports scene around Tacoma, Washington, hosting many different big sporting events from year to year. During the 1993-1994
season it was home to the Seattle Supersonics of the NBA while Key Arena was being renovated. It has also hosted several preseason
NHL games and is often bandied about as the possible home for a relocating NHL team. The longest tenured resident of the Tacoma
Dome was the Tacoma Stars of the MISL, who played their home games in the arena for almost 10 years. Additionally, the Tacoma
Rockets of the Western Hockey League played in the arena for three years and the Tacoma Sabercats of the WCHL played hockey
there for five years.
Over the years, concerts have also been a big part of the annual schedule at Tacoma Dome and when
they are bringing in superstar acts like U2, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and many others have played
to sellout crowds. It has also hosted conferences and inspirational talks by Billy Graham and many others, making this a multifaceted
venue that tends to have a little something for entertainment seekers of all-time.
Tacoma Dome Events/Teams
basketball to hockey to indoor soccer to the Goodwill Games, Tacoma Dome has seen some of the biggest and best sporting events
to take place in the Pacific Northwest, making it always a good idea to keep an eye on the events calendar if you're looking
for something to do. One week you could find a legendary band like the Eagles or Blake Shelton, the next it could be Monster
Jam and after that just about anything can happen, providing plenty of opportunities from year to year as many different events
come to town to bring down the house at the Tacoma Dome. Once you're there in the middle of a highly anticipated event, you'll
be glad that you're not sitting anywhere else – not that you'll actually be thinking about your seat.
Did you know that the first concert ever at Tacoma Dome was David Bowie?
When you have one of the
musical icons of the 1980s light up the stage in the inaugural concert, the standards tend to be pretty high. Since then,
it's been one legend after another coming to the stage, making this a venue that is about a lot more than just some of the
best sporting events in the area.
The Fan Experience
Tacoma Dome is a landmark in the area and, depending
on the event, can hold anywhere between 5,000 and 23,000 guests. When hosting an indoor soccer game the seating at Tacoma
