Tacoma Dome History
Tacoma Dome is a landmark in the area and depending on the vent can hold anywhere between 5,000
and 23,000 guests. When hosting an indoor soccer game the seating at Tacoma Dome numbers just over 20,000 and during a basketball
game there is room for just over 17,000 fans. The Tacoma Dome is also able to host football games but with a limited seating
capacity that allows for only 10,000 guests. Those in Tacoma and the surrounding area know that some of the biggest events
to take place in the area happen at the Tacoma Dome. Name the sport and it has likely been held at Tacoma Dome. From basketball
to hockey to indoor soccer to the Goodwill Games, Tacoma Dome has seen some of the biggest and best sporting events to take
place in the Pacific Northwest. in 1983 two Tacoma architects, Messenger and McGranahan won an international architecture
competition and were given the honor of designing the Tacoma Dome. Since then it has been a staple for Tacoma area residents
looking for world class entertainment whether it comes on the form of sports or concerts.
Tacoma Dome Events
Dome offers patrons a wide variety of entertainment options. During the 1993-1994 season it was home to the Seattle Supersonics
of the NBA while Key Arena was being renovated. It has also hosted several preseason NHL games and is often bandied about
as the possible home for a relocating NHL team. The longest tenured resident of the Tacoma Dome was the Tacoma Stars of the
MISL who played their home games in the arena for almost ten years. Additionally, the Tacoma Rockets of the Western Hockey
League played in the arena for three years and the Tacoma Sabercats of the WCHL played hockey there for five years. The gymnastics
and ice skating events of the 1990 Goodwill Games were held at Tacoma Dome as were annual bull riding contests put on by the
Professional Bull Riders. Concerts are also a big part of the annual schedule at Tacoma Dome and when they are bringing in
superstar acts like U2, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and many others there is no place in the world
any music lover would rather be. The arena was designed with big time concerts in mind and the acoustics are unparalleled.

Tacoma, located between Seattle and Olympia in

his neon art work inside Tacoma Dome and it quickly became the topic of considerable controversy as debate erupted about the
city paying fir public works of art. Tacoma has regularly been listed as one of the most livable cities in the United States
as well as one of the most walkable. This comes alongside pronouncements of Tacoma as the Most Sexually Healthy city in the
United States as well as in 2012 being named the Gayest City in America by Advocate magazine.
