TCU Horned Frogs Football Schedule
After suffering through an injury plagued 2013 season that saw the Horned Frogs
finish tied for seventh in the Big 12, TCU is healthy and ready to set things straight in 2014. The Horned Frogs of Texas
Christian University, who joined the Big 12 Conference in 2012, have been one of college football's most exciting teams over
the last few years despite a 2013 season that started with them ranked #20 but after key injuries left the team with a 4-8
overall record. They rose out of relative obscurity onto the national scene in 2008, when they reached as high as #7 in the
coaches poll and defeated Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl. Their big break came in 2012 with the move from the Mountain
West Conference to the Big 12, increasing their national exposure and the level of competition in their conference. 2014 could
be a huge season for the Horned Frogs if they are able to avoid the injuries that all but destroyed their previous season.
Saturday, October 4th TCU will have their first chance to show that they are indeed once again Big 12 contenders when the
Oklahoma Sooners come to Amon G. Carter Stadium. Oklahoma finished second in the conference last season and will be as hungry
to prove they can compete for the conference title once again as the Horned Frogs are. In state rivals Texas Tech come to
Fort Worth on October 25th for a showdown with Texas bragging rights on the line.
The TCU Horned
Frogs have done a lot of moving over the last few years, but have finally found a home in the tough Big 12 Conference. Though
they have two National Championships in their program's history, they haven't won one since 1938. The football program has
enjoyed much success over the years, especially under current coach Gary Patterson, took over the Horned Frogs in 2000. During
his tenure, TCU has gone from the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) to Conference USA to the Mountain West Conference and,
in 2012, to the Big 12. Since 2000, the Horned Frogs have won five conference championships, and 2004 is the only year that
TCU did not make a bowl game appearance. Now the winningest coach in TCU history, Gary Patterson is taking the program to
new heights, competing amongst some of the best programs in the country in the Big 12 Conference.
The 2013 TCU Horned
Frogs entered the season ranked #20 in the country, but multiple injuries have set the team back from their goals for the
year. Everyone on the team is well aware that the Horned Frogs are capable of accomplishing much more than what they did last
year as long as the team can stay healthy. Recruits like running back Shaun Nixon should also be able to contribute early
and add the much needed depth that the 2013 team lacked.
With their meteoric rise into
the national spotlight in the last decade, the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs football team has become a big time
program. Since finishing the 2008 football season ranked #7 nationally after a defeat of the previously undefeated Boise State
Broncos, they have managed to move to the respected Big 12 Conference, matching up against some of the best programs in the
country like the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys. With this increased visibility, the gameday
experience at Amon G. Carter Stadium has blossomed under the bright lights of a big time conference. This Fort Worth open
air stadium has undergone incredible renovations in the last few years, enhancing the experience for the team and fans.
is nothing quite like a Saturday on campus during the football season, when students, alumni and members of the community
at large band together to support their team. Horned Frogs fans are notoriously rowdy, cheering their team on as they create
a certain home field advantage. When you attend a Horned Frogs game, not only do you experience top tier talent on the field,
but an amazing fan experience hours before the opening kickoff. Get your tickets to be a part of a true college football tradition
in Fort Worth.
The Big 12 is consistently one of the top conferences in college football,
with programs like Texas and Oklahoma always at the top of the rankings. Recently, the Big 12 has become even more deep with
the addition of the TCU Horned Frogs and the reemergence of the Baylor Bears as a top team over the last few years. It is
hard to compete against the SEC when it comes the winning National Championships, but the Big 12 has a winning legacy to rival
their Southeastern rivals.
