Temple Owls Football History
The history of the
Temple Owls football program dates all the way back to 1894, giving the Owls one of the oldest and proudest programs in the
entire country. After a couple of decades of progressing the program, the modern era is not considered to have started until
1925, when Heine Miller became the Owls' head coach and turned them into a regional power. From 1934 to 1938, the Owls' head
coach was Glenn Pop Warner, for whom youth football leagues across the country have been named. From there, the Owls have
brought some very good players to campus and have had their fair share of memorable seasons, making them a sports staple around
the City of Brotherly Love.
Temple Owls Football Trivia
Did you know that Pop Warner played in the first
"World Series of Football"?
Though the concept of a football World Series didn't last for too long, the game couldn't
have been more exciting for football fans when two New York teams squared off in 1902 at Madison Square Garden. In the game,
Pop Warner was playing for the Syracuse Athletic Club, helping to guide the team to a major upset win. Years later, Warner
would take the reins of the Temple program and help guide the team to one of their most exciting stretches in their history.
