Tesla's roots date back to the early 1980s, when Sacramento
natives Brian Wheat and Frank Hannon joined a rock outfit called City Kidd. This group started booking gigs at local venues
around Sacramento, especially at the Oasis Ballroom. City Kidd started to gain serious attention from music producers and
record labels, and pretty soon they were being guided by Geffen Records to hone their more commercial rock sound. For a few
years, City Kidd's members worked with various songwriters and producers, but the formulaic approach of the industry executives
didn't leave City Kidd's members with any creative control, so they decided to regroup and re-focus their musical style in
the mid 1980s.
While recording their first album, Mechanical Renaissance, in 1986, City Kidd decided to change their
name to Tesla. The name was fashioned after the famous engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla, whom the group's members found
to be inspiring. The original members of Tesla included Wheat, Hannon, Jeff Keith, Tommy Skeoch, and Troy Luccketta. To this
day, the band's lineup remains largely intact. During the early years of their career, Tesla went on tour with bands like
Def Leppard, Poison, and David Lee Roth, and they earned a reputation for being a phenomenal heavy metal band. Throughout
the late '80s and '90s, Tesla continued to rock out to sold out venues around the world and release successful albums. The
band announced their breakup in 1996, but reunited a few short years later and have been rocking out nonstop ever since. Now
