Texas Tech Red Raiders Football Schedule

The Texas Tech Red Raiders Football team has been one of the biggest draws in Lubbock, Texas since the team's founding in 1925. To date the Red Raiders have won eleven conference championships and one division title and have an overall winning record. Last season the Red Raiders finished sixth in the Big 12 with a 4-5 conference record and an 8-5 overall record which earned them an invite to the Holiday Bowl. Texas Tech was an exhilarating team to watch as they ranked second in all of Division I football in passing yards per game with an average of 392.8 yards. Hopes were sky high as the Red Raiders raced off to a 7-0 start before losing five games in a row and coming back down to earth. The season did end on a high note with a 37-23 victory over the Arizona State Sundevils in the Holiday Bowl. If the Red Raiders can carry that momentum into the 2014 season and avoid going on a long losing streak midway through the schedule they could once again be serious contenders in the Big 12.

The 2014 season kicks off in Lubbock on August 30th when the Red Raiders go to battle against the Central Arkansas Bears at Jones AT&T Stadium. The home opener at Lubbock is always a huge event and with such high expectations going into the 2014 season you can expect Jones AT&T Stadium to be overflowing with excitement. This is one game no die hard Red Raiders fan will want to miss. Another can't miss game takes place in Lubbock when in state and conference rivals the Texas Longhorns come to town on November 1st. The 15th of November brings the Oklahoma Sooners to Jones AT&T Stadium to battle the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Last season the Red Raiders lost to the Sooners as they went on to finish second in the conference. If the Red Raiders are hoping to make a charge towards the top of the Big 12 standings, a big win against the Sooners late in the season would be significant. On November 29th the home schedule comes to a close with a game against the Baylor Bears. The Red Raiders will be looking to avenge a 63-34 drubbing at Baylor last season as well as win the final home game of the season in front of their loyal fans. Be sure to look at all of the Texas Tech Red Raiders' home football games right here on StubHub to see when you can make it out to Jones AT&T Stadium to show the Red Raiders your support.

The Team

The Red Raiders may have hit a rough spot in the middle of last season but that is no reason to doubt that the team will be in top form this season. There is a talented group of returning players coming back to Lubbock along with recruits like cornerback Nigel Bethel II and wide receiver Ian Sadler both of whom should be able to come right in and make valuable contributions to the team. Kliff Kingsbury will be entering his first season at the helm of the Red Raiders football program and as a former quarterback at Texas Tech he knows all about winning in Lubbock. It will not be a cakewalk in the Big 12 but the Red raiders appear to be poised to really make a splash during conference play. Each season in the Big 12 is full of great match ups as many of the teams have long standing rivalries with one another. Now is the time to get on the Texas Tech Red Raiders football bandwagon so get your tickets today.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Football Conference

The Big 12 has long been known as one of the premiere college football conferences in the country and it should be as hotly contested as ever during the 2014 season. The schools which comprise the Big 12 are Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, West Virginia, and Iowa State. Last season the Baylor Bears emerged as the Big 12 champions finishing with an 8-1 conference record which put them just ahead of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas who all finished Big 12 play with 7-2 records. Every game counts in the Big 12 and there may be no recovering from an off day that results in a loss. You can expect the three teams who tied for second place in the Big 12 in 2013 to be even hungrier this season trying to get back to the top of the conference standings while Baylor will be looking to successfully defend its title. Each year in the Big 12 some team turns things around after an off year to become a legitimate contender. This year that team could be the Red Raiders who were just a few key plays away from an impressive record in 2013.

The Experience

In Lubbock, Red Raiders football is a hallowed tradition and heading out to a big game at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium is one of the most thrilling experiences in all of college football. Cheering for your favorite school or alma mater and watching the talented student athletes put it all on the line for school pride and a shot at playing at the next level is one of the most intense experiences in all of sports. College football fans organize their entire Saturday to celebrate everything that comes with the game. These hard core fans get up early and head off to the stadium parking lot for tailgating before the game. Once inside the stadium, fans join together to make as much noise as possible and help the home team leave with a victory. It is incredibly thrilling to be in the crowd when the star player takes the ball into the end zone for a big win. When you head out for a Texas Tech Red Raiders football game you are guaranteed to experience all of the excitement that comes with a top tier college football game. The parking lot at Jones AT&T Stadium will be filled with people gearing up for the big game, grilling up some grub and sipping on a few beverages as well. It is all one big lead up to the main event, which is, of course, the game itself. There is simply no better way to spend a day off than at a college football game cheering and celebrating with thousands of other hard core fans.

Trivia

The Masked Rider is the official mascot of the Texas Tech Red Raiders and has been part of the school's tradition since 1936. At first the university dared ghost riders to ride horses onto the field before the games, but in 1954 Joe Kirk Fulton led the Red Raiders onto the field before the Gator Bowl and stunned everyone in attendance with his enthusiasm and masked face and cowboy hat. This is when the Masked Raider was truly born and became such an important part of the Red Raiders tradition.
