About The Addams Family Indianapolis
Based on the characters created by Charles Addams, The Addams
Family musical brings everyone's favorite ghoulish family to life. With an all-star creative team consisting of Andrew Lippa,
Marshall Brickman, Rick Elice, Sergio Trujillo, Phelim McDermott, and Julian Crouch, this fun new show offers a musical twist
to Charles Addams' characters. After obtaining the rights from the Tee and Charles Addams foundation in 2007, they began working
on the development for the show. This actually marked the first time that the Charles Addams comic creations were licensed
to be used for a stage production. Instead of using a plot directly from the famous Addams Family television series, the production
team decided to create an entirely original musical production based only on the Addams Family cartoons.
Family musical began previews on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in March 2010, and it officially opened on April 8,
2010. The Broadway production went on to win a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design, and Broadway.com Audience Awards
for Favorite New Broadway Musical, Favorite Performance by a Featured Actor in a Broadway Musical, Favorite Breakthrough Performance,
and Favorite Onstage Pair. By 2011, the show had already grossed over $62 million, and it was well on its way for an international
tour. The Broadway production closed at the end of 2011, after 35 previews and 722 performances.
Shortly before the
Broadway production ended, the Addams Family musical also began a national tour of the United States, opening at the Mahalia
Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans. The tour subsequently visited Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Hartford, Saint
Paul, Philadelphia, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, San Diego, and more, bringing its delightfully morbid sense of humor
to fans all over.
