The Afghan Whigs Tickets

The Afghan Whigs Tickets - The Afghan Whigs Tour

Tour/Concert Schedule

Concert tickets are now available for the popular rock band the Afghan Whigs, so you will want to get some of the best seats in the house when they come to town. The group hails from Cincinnati, Ohio and they originally formed in 1986 and had a popular reign in the industry until 2001. They have since reformed and are continuing to tour around the nation performing ballads from albums like Black Love, Gentlemen, Congregation and 1965.

This Cincinnati-based band has been tearing up the charts since the late 1980s. They originally formed as part of the grunge movement, but have evolved over time, finding their footing in more than one decade. They were one of the first alternative bands to successfully sign and flourish with a major label, and their longevity in the music business is proof of that. The band has survived a lot of the years, including personnel changes and a dissolution in 2001. But, today, they are back together and stronger than ever, ready to give their adoring fans what they want most—to see them live on stage.

The Afghan Whigs are currently on tour and will be making stops in cities all over the country, including the Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, The Showbox in Seattle, Slims in San Francisco, the Paradise Rock Club in Boston and many other prestigious venues across the US. Don't miss your chance to see this one-of-a-kind group create musical magic once more. Get your tickets from StubHub today!

Trivia

The Afghan Whigs have always pushed the envelope. And because of their scintillating subject matter and musical genius, they have inspired many bands that came after them. Bands like The National, The Gaslight Anthem, My Chemical Romance, Jimmy Eat World The Horrible Crowes, Interpol and even The Hold Steady have named The Afghan Whigs as a major influence to their sound and on-stage personas.

While the Afghan Whigs have influenced more than their fair share of up-and-coming musicians, they, too have been influenced by the musicians that came before them. This admiration for these icons of the industry has led the group to cover a variety of artists during their live performances including The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Prince, The Fugees, TLC and even a song from the Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

About the Artist

The band first came together in 1986 in Cincinnati when vocalist and rhythm guitarist Greg Dulli, lead guitarist Rick McCollum, bassist John Curley and drummer Steve Earle decided to collaborate. As Dulli's other band, The Black Republicans, faded into oblivion, Dulli decided to focus all of his attention on The Afghan Whigs. He spent several weeks in isolation, coming up with the music that would make up the Whigs' debut album Big Top Halloween. The album was released in 1988 on their own label. They only pressed 1,000 copies, and one of them happened to find its way into the hands of music producer and co-founder of the Seattle-based indie label Sub Pop, Jonathan Poneman. The label signed the group in 1989. They became the first band to record with the newly-formed label, and in 1990, released their second album, Up in It. The album featured the hit "Retarded," and earned the band favorable reviews and hoard of loyal fans. Their 1992 album, Congregation was also a big hit, along with a covers EP that featured songs from acts like The Supremes. Their songs "Conjure Me" and "Turn On The Water" received airplay on MTV and they became one of the new bands to watch. Then, in 1993, after signing with Elektra Records, the band released their most popular album to date—Gentlemen. It struck a chord with teenage audiences and received positive reviews from Rolling Stone. Their songs "Debonair" and "Gentlemen" received regular airplay, and "Fountain and Fairfax" was featured on an episode of the 90s teen drama, My So-Called Life in 1994.

They continued to have success throughout the next few years, gaining fans both as a group and in their solo work. And even though they were apart for several years, they are back and better than ever. For the first time in 16 years, the band is performing their newest music and greatest hits for adoring fans all over the country. Don't miss your chance to be there when this dynamic group takes the stage once more. Get your tickets today!

Breakthrough Performance

With the success of their albums Congregation and Uptown Avondale, the band was riding high on their newfound fame. And with the release of their next album, Gentlemen, the band's notoriety exploded into the stratosphere. They became one of the most iconic bands of the grunge era with songs like "Debonair," "Gentlemen" and "Fountain and Fairfax." Since then, the band has continued to write and perform great music. Even though it has been several years since the band got together to tour, they haven't lost their touch. They still know how to leave a crowd speechless. Don't miss out!
