About the Arkells
Hailing from Ontario, Canada,
the Arkells have been a force on the music scene since 2006. After two years of local performances, constant songwriting,
and perpetual honing of their unique sound, the Arkells joined on the Matt Mays & El Torpedo tour, getting their first
major dose of 'the road' as they toured all over Canada. As the Arkells spread their signature sound to virgin ears across
Canada, it wasn't long before they were moving up in the musical world, in constant demand around Canada and making a considerable
showing on indie airwaves all across North America.
By 2010, the Arkells were receiving critical recognition from multiple
music critic bastions, including a win with the Canadian Artists Selected by You awards and a Juno win for New Group of the
Year. The band ended up touring beside megagroup Them Crooked Vultures, allowing their music to reach audiences in the United
States and beyond. 2010 would culminate in the Much Music Video Awards, where the band sang alongside pop sensation Kesha
in a cover of Outkast's Atlanta fueled hit single "Ms. Jackson".
The Arkells made another showing at 2012's Juno awards,
clinching the Group of the Year award for their second major recognition from the Junos. The band has now released three full
length albums and somehow manages to keep up one of the busiest touring schedules around, another mark of their enduring work
ethic and dedication to their fans.
The Arkells' debut full was Jackson Square, after their
fresh pickup by Dine Alone Records. Alongside producer Jon Drew, Jackson Square drew critical acclaim and limited commercial
success, garnering a four star rating from media critic ChartAttack. The album produced a multitude of hit singles, including
Arkells' anthem "Oh, the Boss Is Coming!", "The Ballad of Hugo Chavez" (written before his demise), "Pullin' Punches", and
"John Lennon" (written after his demise).
Three years of incubation produced Michigan Left, which dropped in 2011 with
a fresh producer and an even fresher sound. The album contained two of the bands' mega hits, including "Whistleblower", which
gained play over multiple mediums, and "Michigan Left". The band received a nod from the Junos once again when Michigan Left
was nominated for Rock Album of the Year, though the band would have to be sated by only one Juno win that year.
Noon would drop in August of 2014, and quickly climb to the #3 position in the Canadian charts. High Noon is the band's most
mature release yet, featuring a unique and flowing blend of tracks that melds together to form a moving and unique musical
experience. "Come to Light", the album's first single, has already hit the airwaves and is making a strong showing on airwaves
across North America.
Far removed from the pretension of many bands that break it big, the Arkells
are prone to impromptu performances around Canada and have a deep connection with their fans that they foster via over the
top postcards to loyal listeners.
The band contains a penchant for the spirit of giving, with bonus releases during
the winter holidays for loyal fans, in a similar vein to the Christmas single releases by alt rock legends The Killers.
