The Black Keys Background

The Black Keys is a rock duo comprised of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, two musicians who first met as children growing up in Akron, Ohio. Although they had known each other for years, the two didn't truly become friends until high school, when a mutual friend encouraged them to start playing music together. At the time, Auerbach was the captain of the soccer team and Carney was a self-proclaimed social outcast, but despite their difference in friendship groups, they started becoming close friends. The duo started jamming together while in high school, and they continued practicing together throughout the years, and even though they didn't decide to start a duo right away, eventually these two childhood friends would become one of the most successful rock duos in music.

Carney and Auerbach decided to form a band around 2001, and they quickly got to work writing and practicing songs. After sending out demo tapes to countless labels, they received attention from an indie record label called Alive, and suddenly the Black Keys had their foot in the door of the music industry. They got to work on their debut album, The Big Come Up, which was released in 2002. Unfortunately for the duo, the album failed to sell well, but it did earn them a wildly devoted cult following, and the album would eventually sell many more copies as their fame grew. The Black Keys didn't let the poor sales of their first album stop them; instead, they worked on their second album, Thickfreakness, which was released in 2003 and became a huge hit, spawning indie rock favorites like "Hard Row" and "Set You Free". From then on, The Black Keys couldn't be stopped. They have played at some of the world's biggest music festivals, from SXSW to Coachella to the Reading and Leeds Festivals. No matter where this garage rock duo performs, they always attract a massive crowd. Now it's your turn to see the Black Keys in action, and you definitely don't want to miss out!
