The BoDeans Background
BoDeans was formed in 1984 by longtime friends, Sammy Llanas and Kurt Neumann, while they were in high school. They immediately
gravitated toward each other because of their similar taste in music, and decided to create a band so that they could blend
their favorite genres together: Midwestern roots rock, adult contemporary rock, and alternative rock. After high school, Llanas
left for college, but Neumann soon persuaded him to drop out and pursue music with him full time. Although neither of them
had much musical experience, they decided to give it a go and started playing under the name BoDeans in 1980.
in 1983, the BoDeans started playing gigs in Milwaukee, and soon drummer Guy Hoffman joined, turning the duo into a trio.
As a trio, the BoDeans became so popular in Milwaukee that they decided to swell their ranks even further and added bassist
Bob Griffin to the band. In 1985, the band signed a recording contract with Slash/Warner Records, a deal which helped them
launch their commercially successful career that lasted for decades after. In 1987, Rolling Stone magazine named them the
Best New American Band, and started seeing their singles on US Mainstream Rock charts. Because of their rising popularity,
artist like Jerry Harrison from Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, and U2 asked to either collaborate or tour with the BoDeans,
making them an extremely sought after band in music. Their unique sound and fun live performances helped them garner a massive
fan base throughout the country.
Over the years, the BoDeans' style has fluctuated between heartland rock, roots rock,
alternative rock, and mainstream rock, but one thing always remains consistent: the BoDeans produce great music. So take advantage
