The Book of Mormon Boston Tickets

The Book of Mormon Boston Schedule

Since making its Broadway debut in March of 2011, The Book of Mormon has taken the theater world by storm. Created by the comedy team of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the masterminds of South Park, Cannibal: The Musical, Team America: World Police, Orgazmo, and others, The Book of Mormon is an irreverent send up of religion, Broadway musicals, and people who get too caught up in their own myopic world view to think of the troubles facing others in different parts of the world. The play has made even the stuffiest audience members roar with laughter and brought in people who normally would not attend musicals for an amazing night of theater.

The Book of Mormon will be staged at the Boston Opera House during its run in Beantown, a historic venue which first opened in 1928. From April 1st through April 22nd the show will be produced from Tuesday through Sunday. There is no better place in all of Massachusetts, or perhaps in the country, to enjoy a big time musical production so take this opportunity to catch this one of a kind musical while you can. There are currently seven productions weekly, one each night except for Mondays, with a 2:00 PM Saturday matinee also thrown in. You have ample opportunity to catch The Book of Mormon in Boston, so act now to secure the best possible seats.

The Book of Mormon Background

Although it was their first attempt at writing a Broadway musical, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are no strangers to writing stories filled with songs. Three of their movies were musicals in their own right: Cannibal the Musical, South Park Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, and Team America World Police. However, for The Book of Mormon, Parker and Stone enlisted the help of Robert Lopez who had previously worked as the co-composer and co-lyricist of the similarly irreverent Avenue Q which was a Broadway hit starring puppets. This musical comedy about two Mormon missionaries sent to northern Uganda is hilarious to viewers of any denomination, and the bizarre but intriguing storyline meets a fascinating score to make The Book of Mormon a huge hit in the theatrical realm. The result is a critique as much of organized religion as it is of the culture surrounding Broadway musicals, and can be seen as a parody of the Lion King musical. The production has since gone on to win several theater awards, including nine Tony Awards and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

Boston, Massachusetts

As one of the major metropolitan areas in the United States, Boston is overflowing with options for entertainment. It has an incredibly vibrant theater and arts scene which centers around the Boston Opera House, which is home not only to the Boston Opera but to annual productions of the Nutcracker as well as many of the biggest touring Broadway style musicals to come to town. There is plenty more to experience in Boston aside from theater and high art. With several college campuses calling the city home you can expect to find a wide variety of alternative art whether it is theater, visual art, or music at any of the several rock clubs or pubs in the area. Of course, Boston is revered for its part in the nation's history and a walk along the Freedom Trail will take you to some of the most historic sites in the entire nation from Bunker Hill to the Boston Harbor.

The Book of Mormon Experience

There is little more exciting in the world of entertainment than seeing a world class theatrical production. The Book of Mormon is certainly no exception. The way it combines the productions of a typical Broadway musical that offers up spectacular sets, costuming, and dance numbers, all with a generous dose of no holds barred humor thrown in, makes The Book of Mormon separate itself from the pack of Broadway musicals you have to choose from. The plot twists will keep you on the edge of your seat while the strange twists and turns and outrageous characters will have you rolling in the isles between songs that you will be humming to yourself long after leaving the theater. From the moment the curtain opens to a group of Mormon missionaries to the closing number you are along for a rollicking fun ride unlike anything else offered in contemporary theater. Even those who do not normally like musicals are sure to be enthralled by The Book of Mormon and will leave the theater itching to experience it again.

The Book of Mormon Trivia

The Book of Mormon has claimed nine Tony Awards, including ones for Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Additionally, the production has garnered five Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Musical, Lyrics, Music, Director of a Musical and Outstanding Orchestrations. In 2013, the show was presented with the Evening Standard Award in the Best Night Out category.
