Book Of Mormon Takes Las Vegas!
If you haven't seen the Book of Mormon yet, you might want to put it high on your
list of priorities this coming year. The winner of NINE Tony Awards, this musical took Broadway by storm and has embarked
on a national tour with a cast that will blow your mind. Get your seats soon for this one-of-a-kind religious satire that
has audiences laughing and singing the hit tunes long after they've left the theater.
One of the most wildly
acclaimed theater productions onstage today, "The Book of Mormon" is a satirical religious musical that will have you laughing
through the last line. The show tells the story of two Mormon missionaries who are sent to a tiny village in Uganda to help
stop the crimes of a vicious warlord. The naïve and youthful missionaries want to share their scripture, The Book Of Mormon,
with the locals. However, only one of them has read it, and they run into some belly-busting comedic situations trying to
relay their values to the locals who have bigger fish to fry.
If you haven't booked The Book Of
Mormon Las Vegas tickets yet, hurry up and do so soon! Tickets first went on sale in December 2013 and are flying like hotcakes
for the touring show. The entourage will be performing in Vegas from June 10th to July 6th in Reynolds Hall in
The Smith Center. With a show this high in demand, tickets won't be available for long.
The show took
nearly seven years to develop before it opened on Broadway in March 2011. A production this good needs that kind of TLC, and
the hard work has definitely paid off. From it's debut, the show has had a beautiful reception, going on to win nine Tony
Awards, including one for Best Musical, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The original album also
climbed to number three on the Billboard charts.
In its original production, Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells
took on the two leading roles, but the show has branched out into a number of different tours since then. Those folks who
are lucky enough to experience the Las Vegas show will see the original Chicago production cast shining onstage. The cast
includes Nic Rouleau as Price and Ben Platt, also known for his role in the film "Pitch Perfect," as Cunningham.
Much can be said about the inventive authors behind the spectacular "The Book of Mormon." The show was conceived
by Robert Lopez, along with Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the duo responsible for creating "South Park." Parker and Stone both
grew up in Colorado, where they often interacted with members of the Church of Latter-day Saints. This background gave them
the inspiration for the musical. Beginning in 2003, they began having regular meetings with Robert Lopez, one of the writer-composers
of "Avenue Q," in order to develop the storyline for what would come to be "The Book of Mormon."
2010, Scott Rudin was named as the producer of the show. Rudin is known for also producing "South Park: Bigger, Longer &
Uncut," and is a longtime friend of Trey Parker and Matt Stone. He helped the authors put together the original production,
then arranged for it to premiere on at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. From there, it went on a US National Tour and then to a
run in Chicago, which had a tremendous public reception. The current U.S. Tour has the same cast and producers as the Chicago
show, so you can expect it to be running full-steam when it hits Las Vegas!
