The Festy Experience – The 2014 Event
Going on five strong years of musical greatness, The Festy Experience
music festival is again occupying the Devils Backbone Basecamp to bring another amazing year of indulgence, festivities, debauchery,
and music. With this year's Festy Experience spanning four amazing days of fun in the sun, 2014 will be the greatest festival
Held in the beautifully majestic Nelson County, Virginia, The Festy Experience music is only enhanced by the region's
rich history and bucolic small town feel. The spirit of Nelson County clearly lends itself to the festival, as many attendees
describe the yearly event as a relaxing getaway where fellow festival goers become your close friends over the course of the
weekend. Columbus Day weekend has never been more exciting. Grab your ticket and prepare your camping gear, because The Festy
Experience 2014 is going to be the best weekend of music you will have this year.
About The Festy Experience
2009 marked the inception of The Festy Experience idea, this festival's Virginia lineage can be followed to previous decades
through Michael Allenby and Justin Billcheck. These two Virginia natives went to the same high school in Williamsburg. Independently
of each other, they would make the move to Charlottesville, Virginia to start their own music companies: The Artist Farm and
Justin Billcheck Productions.
Previously known as Cerberus Productions, Justin Billcheck Productions is dedicated to
planning and creating music events and festivals. He has been the operations manager at music festivals no less successful
than All Good, Coachella, and Bonnaroo. With so much experience under his belt, understanding what does and does not work
for a music festival, he would eventually be unable to fight the urge to create a music festival of his very own in the state
of Virginia where he grew up.
Michael Allenby, who co-founded The Artist Farm, is dedicated to producing events that
facilitate meaningful connections between strangers. He had previously focussed on helping musicians and artists with management
concerns. One of The Artist Farm's clients is The Infamous Stringdusters – the crowning yearly headliner of The Festy
Experience. For years, Allenby and The Stringdusters had been talking about making a festival in Colorado or Virginia, due
to The Stringdusters' wealth of experience performing at and attending festivals all around the country.
Stringdusters would play Nelson County's Brew Ridge Trail Music Festival on the Devils Backbone Brewery land in August of
2009. Produced and created by Cerberus Productions, this festival brought Billcheck and Allenby together for a fated reunion.
Key to the mix were The Infamous Stringdusters, and the musicians and the businesses discovered they shared a vision of a
bucolic music festival and camping event. Devils Backbone Basecamp in the Blue Ridge Mountains seemed tailor-made for their
dream. The Stringdusters would come back to Charlottesville as few months later to lay down some tracks for their upcoming
album Things That Fly, and they also took the opportunity to start planning how to realize The Festy Experience with Billcheck
2014 marks the fifth year of The Festy Experience, which will celebrate not only the music but the beautiful
location and the successful collaboration between The Stringdusters and the two businesses.
year's Festy saw a roster of amazing bands. Apart from inspirational fixtures The Infamous Stringdusters, CABINET, JJ Grey
& Mofro, Della Mae, and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad were in attendance. This year finds Keller Williams, Anders Osborne,
Steep Canyon Rangers, and The New Mastersounds among the top billing.
A challenge for any growing
vision is to christen it with the right name. While waiting for the perfect moniker to occur to them, the group simply referred
to the event as "the festy" – a common term for music festivals. Meanwhile, the group also desired their event to be
a holistic "experience" that could be maintained for years to come. The planning progressed, and a "festy experience" seemed
to truly be the most appropriate title for their vision.
