The group, that is named for two eccentric characters from their hometown of Cork, Ireland, debuted their musical talents to the world in 1991, with their first album entitled EP1. The album was very well-received and gained the band a loyal following. Their single "Fashion Crisis Hits New York" went on to become a mega hit with indie music fans. Their sophomore effort, EP2, was released soon after and scored the band a top notch recording contract with the Go! Discs label, where the group was able to collaborate with award-winning music producer Edwyn Collins. He helped them record their Happy Busman EP that was also a chart-topping hit in the UK. Their Ian Broudie remix of the LP song "After All" peaked at No. 11 on the UK Singles charts and No. 5 on the Irish charts. After a whirlwind rise to fame, the band took a prolonged sabbatical to renew themselves and their music. They returned to the charts in 2010, with the release of their comeback single entitled "The Parson," which was well-received and reinvigorated their fan base. Two decades later, The Franks (as their fans call them) are still wowing crowds and defying expectations.
