The Game Background

The Game, born Jayceon Terrell Taylor, grew up in Compton, one of the most crime-ridden cities in all of California. Growing up in a gang-centered culture, Taylor was constantly surrounded by guns, violence, and gang members during his entire childhood. Fortunately for Taylor, he discovered his incredible natural ability for athletics before he became too deeply entrenched in his gang, and he spent his free time working on improving his skills as the point guard for the school's basketball team. He received a basketball scholarship to Washington State University, where he was soon expelled due to being caught with drugs. After being expelled from school, Taylor moved back into Compton and got involved in gang culture, because of which he was victim to a gang shooting and spent three days in a coma.

While convalescing from his gunshot wounds, Taylor started listening extensively to classic hip hop albums. With a desire to get out of the gang-ridden streets and to pursue his passion for hip hop, Taylor decided to pursue a career as a professional rapper. He started making mixtapes with his brother, Big Fase, and landed a record deal with Get Low Recordz in 2002. However, The Game didn't truly achieve success until Dr. Dre got a hold of his mixtapes and decided to take Taylor under his wings. Thanks to Dr. Dre, The Game started to work with some of the biggest rappers in music, such as 50 Cent and G-Unit. Soon enough, The Game became one of the most recognizable names in rap music, and his hit hip hop songs earned him Grammy nominations and respect from musicians of all genres.

There's no doubt that The Game is one of the most distinct and renowned voices in hip hop, and his years of hard work and perseverance are consistently reflected in his songs.
