My Bloody Valentine’s signature wash of guitar feedback often had a dreamy, ethereal feel to it. But that classic
alt-rock band obviously took influence from another. The Jesus and Mary Chain pioneered the sound, blending typical pop
composition with dark, loud guitar noise that sounded unlike anything music fans were listening to in their heyday of the
early ‘80s.
Scottish brothers William and Jim Reid remained a constant in the band’s lineup after forming in 1984 in Glasgow.
When they started touring clubs, the band would sometimes deliberately provoke the audience, encasing the room in a cloud
of feedback with their backs to the audience. But their records were beautiful and original works of pop-rock art that have
influenced bands for years afterward.
The band’s debut, Psychocandy, remains one of their most popular records, with charging rock like “The Living
End” and sweet pop songs like “Just like Honey.” The band’s renown only continues to grow with time,
and concert tickets are sure to be prized by fans old and new. Make sure you get The
Jesus and Mary Chain tickets before they sell out.
