In the '80s, few bands captured the Los Angeles punk sound like X. But the band's interests expanded beyond just the brash rock music that they're best known for. They formed a side project in 1985 called The Knitters that gave listeners a very different side of the band, focusing on Americana and folk music. Get concert tickets to see this band perform live!
The Knitters first came together with X members Exene Cervenka on vocals, John Doe providing vocals and bass, D.J. Bonebrake on drums and Dave Alvin on guitar. The year they formed, they released a one-off—Poor Little Critter on the Road. It was a unique offering from a band known for its grit, turning instead into an all-acoustic, soulful country band.
The Knitters tickets are now available, but won't be for long. This awesome side project from most of the members of X released one record in 1985, then recorded a follow-up in 2005, The Modern Sounds of the Knitters.
