Formed in 1965, the original Meters band was comprised of keyboardist and vocalist Art Neville, drummer Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste, guitarist Leo Nocentelli, and bassist George Porter Jr. After a few months playing under the name Art Neville & The Sounds, the band was hired by renowned producers Allen Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn as the house band for the Sansu Enterprises label. The Meters performed the majority of their backing work for this label.T he original Meters, which includes frontman Neville, continue to perform live for various one-off concerts and festivals, such as the 2011 Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco.
