Originated in 1969 in the Trenchtown area of Kingston, Jamaica, The Mighty Diamonds quickly became recognized as the group with the Motown sound. The group is comprised of Donald "Tabby" Shaw, lead vocalist; Fitzroy "Bunny" Simpson, harmony vocalist; and Lloyd "Judge" Ferguson, harmony vocalist. The trio became friends at school in the mid-60s and were first known as The Limelight. They changed their name after Shaw's mother called them "the diamonds." Their polished choreographed stage shows were modeled after the Motown vocal groups of the 1960s, including The Impressions, The Temptations and The Stylistics.
