The Outlaws Background
The Outlaws were officially formed in 1967 when Hughie Thomasson,
David Dix, Phil Holmberg, Hobie O'Brien, Frank Guidry, and Herb Pino decided to bring their musical talents together to form
one incredible band. The group originally named themselves The Rogues, and later The Four Letter Words. Finally, the band
decided on the name The Outlaws, a name that has stuck for over 40 years. In 1968, the band packed up and headed to New York
City to record their debut album, but the album was never released because of an unfortunate falling out with the producer.
This happened again in Miami, when producer Phil Gernhard disappeared and left The Outlaws hanging. After two failed attempts
at releasing their debut album, The Outlaws finally achieved success when they signed with Arista Records under Clive Davis
after he saw them opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd and was blown away by their incredible star potential.
Some of the band's
biggest hits were released early in their career, such as "There Goes Another Love Song" and "Green Grass and High Tides".
The records that the band released between 1975 and 1980 are often considered the band's best work, and tracks from this era
still remain iconic southern rock songs to this day. With such an impressive repertoire of classic country rock songs and
a reputation for being outstanding performers, there's no doubt that The Outlaws can draw a huge crowd. This year when The
Outlaws head out on tour yet again, make sure that you are in the audience to rock out to some of their biggest hits. The
Outlaws, after all, are legendary southern rock artists that are often compared to Lynyrd Skynyrd and Buffalo Springfield.
