The Rankin Family first began their career as singers, dancers and musicians in their hometown of Mabou, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia in 1989. The group had a heyday in the ‘90s, bringing Canadian Celtic song into the foreground of contemporary music. The group did well, but disbanded in 1999 so the members could pursue other venues, the leading member John Morris, died in an accident only a few months later. Fans will be pleased to hear that the family is back, having reunited in 2007.
