The Ritz Ybor City History

The Ritz Ybor was originally built in 1917 when it was known as the Rivoli Theatre. At that time, you could catch a play for 15 to 35 cents!

By the mid-1940s, the building underwent a renovation and assumed the Ritz Theatre name until the 1970s. In 1973, the building was included in the Register of Historic Places. It was additionally designated as part of the National Historic Landmark District in 1989.

The Capitano family bought the building in 1988, which housed the Masquerade Nightclub from 1992 to 2006. The Masquerade mainly hosted alternative rock music acts and a coveted sink-or-swim '80s night on Thursdays. The Masquerade closed its doors in 2006.

The Ritz Ybor, which opened in 2008, went through a dramatic $2 million renovation to assume the spot as one of Tampa's foremost concert and special events venues.
