Starting Line Background
The story of Starting Line started with an email from one teen to another back in 1999.
Guitarist Matt Watts reached out to then 14-year-old bassist and vocalist Kenny Vasoli via email and asked him if he was willing
to gig with him. Shortly after, Vasoli joined Watts, Tom Gryskewicz (drummer) and Mike Golla (guitarist) for a jam session. The
four of them started band called Sunday Drive. Just out of high school, the group began to cut demos and pencil in gigs. They
even promoted themselves by utilizing AOL and MP3.com. By 2000, the group assumed the name of the Starting Line because they
discovered a Christian rock band already had the Sunday Drive name. They thendropped an EP, With Hopes of Starting Over. Appearances
at Warped Tour followed and the Starting Line maintained theirsolid presence on social media. In 2002, their first full-length
album arrived, Say It Like You Mean It, which was greeted with praise. They were welcomed back to Warped Tour for a repeat
performance that summer. Before the close of the year, the band released the EP, Make Yourself at Home. Based On A True Story
came next in 2005, serving as the Starting Line'ssecond studio album. They once again made their way to Vans Warped that summer.
In September of that year, Starting Line shared the bill with Fall Out Boy for the Nintendo Fusion Tour. In the summer of
2007, Starting Line came out with the album, Direction. The track, "Island," cracked the Billboard Modern Rock charts, landing
at No. 21. The album itself scored No. 30 on the Billboard 200 chart. In the spring of 2008, Starting Line revealed that they
would be taking a hiatus for members to focus on other projects. In the fall of 2009, Somebody's Gonna Miss Us dropped, which
was the group's debut live CD/DVD. Following the CD/DVD release, the group reunited for a show hosted at the Theater of Living
Arts. They also added another performance to the roster at the close of that year at Philadelphia's Trocadero Theater. In
early 2011, Starting Line took the stage at the Soundwave Festival. They made an appearance at Slam Dunk Records Leeds music
festival in May 2011. In honor of their decade anniversary for their debut album, Say It Like You Mean It, the band hit the
road. They reunited again around the holidays of 2013, playing the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey. Fans have
an opportunity to catch them this year, once again for the Yuletide season, at the Trocadero Theater.
