The Steepwater Band got their start in delta blues music, forming in Chicago in 1998. Their signature combination of rock and blues spoke to music fans of the late 1990s, and made them an instant hit in their hometown of Chicago. As they played their raw, gutsy music, they gained fans across the state and eventually the country. Vocalist and guitarist Jeff Massey founded the group with bassist Tod Bowers and drummer Joe Winters. Their synergy on stage came from years of playing together. The trio was a devoted three-member group until early 2012 when the group was joined by Eric Saylors who provided guitar work and back-up vocals. He added a new depth to their already rich live sound, showcasing the passion and stellar musical abilities of each musician. As a trio, the group maintained a steady and rigorous performance schedule over the years, playing nearly 125 shows a year.
