The Strokes Background

The Strokes are a New York City band, born and bred. Its roots go back to Dwight School in Manhattan, where Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, and Fab Moretti started jamming together in their free time. The band's numbers swelled when Nikolai Fraiture and Albert Hammond, Jr. joined the group. The band started playing at music venues all across New York, including the famous Mercury Lounge and the Luna Lounge. After hearing the incredible talent and catchy songs of The Strokes, the Mercury Lounge's talent booker, Ryan Gentles, quit his job and signed on to be the band's manager.

With a manager at their side, the band started to write and record more songs for their first EP, The Modern Age (2001). This EP included hit songs like "Last Nite", "The Modern Age", and "Someday". Because of the incredibly catchy indie tunes on the EP, record labels flocked to The Strokes, and a bidding war ensued over which would be the label to sign the up and coming band. The Strokes ended up choosing to sign with RCA, and released their debut album Is This It in October 2011. The album immediately received praise from critics and fans alike, earning 4 stars from Rolling Stone and 9.1 from Pitchfork. Entertainment Weekly even named it the best album of the year. And just like that, The Strokes had made it big.

To this day, The Strokes are still performing their hit songs at venues all over the world, and remain a staple headliner at major music festivals. The Strokes are without a doubt one of the biggest indie bands to come out of America in the 2000s, and their catchy tunes never fail to get their fans singing and dancing. This summer, make sure that you take advantage of the opportunity to see The Strokes perform live and grab your tickets on StubHub today!
