Thompson-Boling Arena History

For Men's and Lady Vols games, the atmosphere is absolutely electric at Thompson-Boling Arena, with fans packing the arena every night. There are so many incredible traditions when the players hit Pat Summit Floor, including the singing of the famed fight song "Rocky Top" and fans donning orange and white. Basketball is a sport best seen live and there may be no better gameday experience than seeing a Vols game at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee. Built in 1987, Thompson-Boling Arena was the largest basketball only arena in the country, seating over 25,000 fans. Though a more recent renovation scaled back the seating, Thompson-Boling Arena is still the largest in Tennessee, as the arena is packed to the rafters with Vols fanatics dressed in UT Orange. Since the men's and women's basketball programs have been incredibly successful since the opening of the state of the art venue, Thompson-Boling Arena is oftentimes at the center of some of the biggest basketball games of the year.
