Thompson-Boling Arena History
Built in 1987, Thompson-Boling Arena was the largest basketball only arena in the
country, seating over 25,000 fans. Though a more recent renovation scaled back the seating, Thompson-Boling Arena is still
the largest in Tennessee, as the arena is packed to the rafters with Vols fanatics dressed in UT Orange. Since the men's and
women's basketball programs have been incredibly successful since the opening of the state of the art venue, Thompson-Boling
Arena is oftentimes at the center of some of the biggest basketball games of the year. When the arena is not hosting Tennessee
basketball, it is the site of concerts for some of the biggest names in entertainment like Willie Nelson, Blake Shelton, Miley
Cyrus and many more. You can also experience all of the excitement of the WWE when high profile events like WWE Raw and World
Tag Team Championship come to Knoxville for a night you'll never forget.
