About Thompson Square
As one might expect
by the name Thompson Square, the band is made up of two Thompsons, husband and wife Keifer and Shawna. As a married couple,
the background of how the band got started is tied to Thompson Square's genesis. Keifer Thompson, a native of Miami, Oklahoma
met Shawna, who was originally from Chatom, Alabama, while participating a competition in Nashville, Tennessee. Each one worked
as a solo artist before deciding to work as a duo. Once they did, the two sang back up vocals for acts like Ty Henrndon's
song, Right About Now.
Thompson Square were signed to Stoney Creek Records, which is connected to Broken Bow Records.
Broken Bow Records is an American independent record label that specializes in country music. In 2010, Thompson Square released
a debut single called "Lets Fight." The single received accolades and even debuted on the Hot Country Songs chart for an entire
Thompson Square Breakthrough
After having success with the first debut single, the future looked
bright for Thompson Square. The band released a second single called, "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" Interestingly, the song
was not written by Thompson Square. David Lee Murphy and Jim Collins wrote the song. It quickly made it to the number one
spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and has since been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of
America. This was a huge breakthrough for Thompson Square, as the twosome worked on producing and releasing its their debut
album, Thompson Square. The band worked with New Voice Entertainment to produce it and landed another top country music song
called "I Got You." Again Jason Aldean, Jason Sellers and Paul Jenkins wrote the song and not Thompson Square. The next single,
"Glass," peaked at fifteen on the charts. After having such early success, the Academy of Country Music Awards awarded Thompson
Square with the recognition of Top Vocal Duo. The upward success did not end there, as Thompson Square released its fifth
single, "If I Didn't Have You." It reached number one on the charts and received a lot of airplay. The most recent Just Feels
Good continued to receive fan and critical recognition and included top charting singles.
Thompson Square Trivia
Square is hugely involved in helping the ChildFund International. According to Keifer that two of them formed a partnership
with the international non-profit, after having watched the commercials throughout their lifetimes. After having done a significant
amount of research and see that the organization does have a positive rating, the decision to partner with the organization
was made. According to Shawna in an interview with The Boot, "We sponsor a child now. She lives in Indonesia, and her name
is Lady. She's six years old, and her dad makes $370 a year. We've talked about meeting her, so hopefully we'll be going over
to see her in person. There's a three-minute video we play before going on stage. We talk about it on stage, why it's so important
to help—it's just a dollar a day." Both the members of Thompson Square are passionate about helping the children in
impoverished countries that are not surviving due to a lack of clean water and medicine. What is important to Thompson Square
is that everyone be given the chance to have a respectful quality of life and the band is in a position to help.
duo is also advocates of men and women in the military, having family who have spent their life in Iraq and Afghanistan during
multiple deployments. The two even mentioned having a yellow ribbon around a tree at home (or one that is now white due to
the sun fading it).
