Tigers Jaw Background
Hailing from Scranton, Pennsylvania, Tigers Jaw issued their debut album, Belongs to the
Dead, in 2006. AbsolutePunk, a website specializing in punk music, reviewed the band's first effort by stating, "Tigers Jaw
is fueled by emotionally driven lyrics brought to life by vocalist Adam McILwee, whose voice is one of those that reveal passion
while at the same time giving the impression that he's barely trying. Aforementioned opener 'The Sun' is one of the better
track on the album, offering up a well-organized mix of Tigers Jaw's two personas." Their eponymous sophomore album was also
welcomed with open arms with dyingscene.com saying, "This new self-titled album takes things in a new direction... With the
Scranton scene almost unrecognizable from what it was only a year or two ago, Tigers Jaw has proven capable of carrying the
torch; far and away the most talented young band for miles around. Seriously, no contest whatsoever."
Jaw forges ahead as a two-piece with Brianna Collins (keys, vocals) and Ben Walsh (guitars, vocals). Current touring members
also include Luke Schwartz (bass); Eliot Babin (drums); and Jake Woodruff (guitars). Their latest album,Charmer, which was
developed with the original five-piece lineup intact, doesn't reach the depths of feverish punk rock that their other albums
showcase. However, it still sustains its incredible zeal while the band evolves into the indie-pop genre without sacrificing
any of the punk tenacity, energy and emo fervor. Jeff Koch for popmatters.com, stated, "If you're the kind of person who's
bored to tears by recent releases from the National and Real Estate, but enjoy rock with that kind of indie sensibility, Charmer
could be the best thing you've heard all year. Armed with an urgent edge that arrives with fuzzy guitars, an indie softness
that ebbs and flows across the album's entire runtime, and the succinct moments of lyrical genius and vulnerability Tigers
Jaw have always delivered, Charmer is 2014's best emo record so far. This record is a brilliant end to the Tigers Jaw we've
come to love - and signals good things for the Tigers Jaw that we'll have going forward."
