The Toadies would get their start in Forth
Worth, Texas, riding the grunge and post grunge wave that dominated the twilight of the 80s. They would self release their
own material and keep up a lively tour schedule to build a rabid fan base, eventually catching the eyes and ears of numerous
major record labels that recognized the Toadies unique sound and their unbeatable performance abilities. They would eventually
find common ground with mega label Interscope Records, eventually releasing their mainstream debut in 1994. The album would
be a runaway hit, spawning the mega single "Possum Kingdom" which has since become of the alternative rock religion. The single
would receive widespread radio play and be featured on the mix tapes of any respectable alt rocker of the mid 90s, and would
be immortalized for the next generation on the runaway pho rock video game series Guitar Hero.
The band immediately
rose to take their place with the largest and most influential rockers of the decade, sharing the stage and billing with artists
such as Bush, the Red Host Chili Peppers, and Reverend Horton Heat. They would ride the success train of their debut big label
LP for three years, eventually hitting the studio for a failed attempt at recording their sophomore follow up. The band would
pull it together with another year in the studio, but the stresses of their album work and a nonstop tour schedule would eventually
take its toll on Toadies as they broke up in the early 2000s.
Not being able to live without each other, the band embarked
on a reunion tour in 2006, immediately returning to a position of prominence as they hit the biggest festivals all across
the country. The band would pay special attention to their home state of Texas, constantly returning to the motherland in
respect of their fantastically large and fanatic fan base in the area, and acted as huge draws for classic Texas festivals
such as Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival as well as the iconic Austin City Limits festival. Fully rejuvenated, the band
headed back to the studio to record their third full length release, and have since been on a non stop whirlwind of music
greatness, either on the road or in the studio as they continue to rock and redefine the alternative rock scene each and every
The band's debut Rubberneck would drop in 1994, an overnight success that launched
them squarely into the spotlight of major artists of the decade. Produced by Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf, the album would
receive platinum certification alongside critical acclaim, with a four star rating from Obnoxious Listeners and favorable
reviews from CMJ magazine. Carried by the singles "Possum Kingdom" and "Away", the album would climb to the #56 position on
the Billboard 200 and hit the top position on the US Heatseekers chart.
The band's come back album Deliverance would
see release a decade and a half after Rubberneck, after the band's short lived breakup that kept them off the stage and out
of the studio for nearly five years. The album allowed Toadies to reclaim their position as preeminent alt rockers of their
time, hitting #59 on the Billboard 200 and climbing to #4 on the Independent Albums charts. The album spawned the title hit
"No Deliverance", an addictive track that has since become a core piece of the Toadies' hit music catalogue.
band's album Feeler was originally meant to be released as their sophomore follow up, but was rejected by Interscope. The
band would release the album over a decade later in 2010, to huge praise from fans and critics alike.
