There's more than one side to Chaz Bundick, the South Carolina artist who goes by the name Toro y Moi. He was the toast
of Pitchfork in 2010, and found the "chillwave" label sticking to him. But Bundick's spacey, dreamy electronica has been replaced
by a more energetic brand of indie-pop for his latest record, Underneath the Pine. Check out his new sound when he brings
it on the road. Concert tickets are available
now.
Toro y Moi formed in 2001, when Chaz Bundick began playing with electronic-based bedroom recordings. Flash forward to 2010,
and his name was one of the many popping up on music blogs associated with "chillwave," a vaguely defined brand of electronic
music that includes a lot of effects processing, looping, and general trippiness. Bundick released a debut album, Causers
of This, in 2010 as well.
Toro y Moi quickly found a following in 2010. But Chaz Bundick had more in him. He had begun work on an indie-pop record
with guitars as well as synthesizers. That new sound is found on Underneath the Pine, and he's taking it on the road. Get
tickets to see him perform at celebrated venues like New York's Bowery Ballroom!
