Toronto FC Schedule in 2014

Toronto FC is ready to go in 2014, prepared to take the field against some of the top clubs in Major League Soccer. This team is ready to rise in the ranks of the Eastern Conference, and fans of the team are hoping that just that will come to fruition in this season. Toronto finished in ninth place in the conference in 2013, but there is plenty of room to improve for this promising roster. The team has a lot of fantastic home matchups that will give Toronto the opportunity to prove that they're capable of beating some of the toughest teams in the sport. Fans will surely be packing into the stands to be a part of the action live and in person.

Toronto always looks forward to their matchups with the Montreal Impact. These two teams have had some epic battles in the past, and fans love to be there every time they take the field at the same time. The Impact were able to earn a playoff spot in 2013, but were eliminated in the Knockout Round. The Impact will be looking to rise in the ranks this season, but Toronto FC will do whatever it takes to win their head-to-head matchups.

The fans will surely be in a frenzy when Sporting Kansas City comes to Toronto this season. Sporting Kansas City was able to win the MLS Cup last season, and Toronto FC will be looking forward for the chance to prove that they're capable of beating the best of the best. It should be another great season of Toronto FC soccer in 2014.

Toronto FC Major League Soccer

The Toronto FC play in the MLS, or Major League Soccer, which is the premiere soccer league in the United States and Canada and is also a member of CONCACAF. Nineteen teams in the league compete during the regular season which begins each March hoping to earn a spot in the postseason. Each team plays thirty four regular season games with the regular season champion being awarded the Supporters' Shield. The top ten teams advance to the playoffs with the last two teams playing in the MLS Cup in December. The first season of the MLS was in 1996 with ten charter members of which the Columbus Crew was one. Plans for establishing the league began as far back as 1988 when U.S. Soccer made an agreement with FIFA to have plans to get a Division I professional soccer league in place in order to be allowed to host the 1994 World Cup. The league is granted a spot for three American teams in the CONCACAF Champions League while another team has the chance to qualify via the U.S. Open Cup. Year after year MLS gains more fans and it stands as one of the five major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada.

Toronto FC Rivalries

Of course one of the main rivals for Toronto FC is with the Montreal Impact. This is a rivalry that has spread over from the long standing rivalry between the Maple Leafs and the Canadiens in hockey. The two cities are very close to each other which feeds the rivalries in every sport. The two sides also compete against one another for the Canadian Cup and the Voyageur Cup. Another rival of Toronto FC is the Columbus Crew. The teams have faced off several times and annually compete for the Trillium Cup, and although the Crew won the first four such matches, Toronto has begun to even the series out in recent years.

The Experience

There are few events as exciting as seeing one top notch soccer team compete at home against another. The players in the MLS have grown up playing the sport that they love and are out there is much to advance the popularity of the sport in the United States. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and gives birth to the most fervent and dedicated fans. One step into BMO Stadium when the Toronto FC is playing and you will understand what all of the fuss is about. Unrelenting action, otherworldly footwork, stunning slide tackles, and mind blowing, acrobatic saves by goalkeepers will have you seeing exactly why soccer is referred to as "the beautiful game." You will be chanting and singing along and barely even need to use your seat as move after move will have you jumping up and cheering for the home team. By the time the referee blows the final whistle you will be anxiously awaiting the next opportunity to attend a Toronto FC game and will find yourself an MLS and soccer fan for life.

Did you know that Toronto was given an expansion team in 2005, but the team did not play their first MLS game until the 2007 season?

The team's name was decided by a fan vote that gave fans the option of Toronto FC, Inter Toronto, Toronto Reds or Toronto Northmen. BMO Stadium completed construction just before the start of the 2007 MLS season and is the largest soccer specific stadium in Canada.
