Toronto Maple Leafs Playoff Tickets

Toronto Maple Leafs Playoff tickets

Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most historic franchises in the NHL. They formed as simply Toronto in 1917 and joined the league in its inaugural season as one of the Original Six franchises. In 1927 the franchise adopted the current Maple Leafs name. Altogether the Toronto Maple Leafs have won 13 Stanley Cup Championships which has them second only to their chief rivals the Montreal Canadiens. However, the last time the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup was all the way back in 1967 which is the longest current championship drought in the NHL. The Maple Leafs were named the most valuable franchise in the NHL in 2013 and were estimated to be worth more than 1.15 billion dollars. Maple Leafs fans are some of the most dedicated in the NHL and home games are almost always sold out while Leafs fans also regularly flood away games at nearby Buffalo and Ottawa and make the arenas almost a neutral site.

About the Team

After a playoff drought for a few years the Toronto Maple Leafs finally returned to the playoffs in 2013 after finishing third in their division but lost in the conference quarterfinals in Game 7 to the Boston Bruins. The Maple Leafs appear ready to make a deep run in the NHL Playoffs this year with high hopes of satisfying their fans' wait for another Stanley Cup Championship that is approaching the five decade mark. Carl Gunnarson and captain Dion Phaneuf will be anchoring a stalwart defense for the Maple Leafs along with Jonathan Bernier minding the net. As if that defense will not be tough enough to win against, the Maple Leafs appear stacked on offense as well with leading goal scorer and assist man right winger Phil Kessel setting the pace and assistant captains Joffrey Lupul and Jay McClement providing assistance and leadership.

The Experience

Hockey fans in general are some of the most passionate sports fans around, but nothing quite matches the fanaticism surrounding the NHL playoffs and fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs are some of the most dedicated and vociferous fans in the entire NHL. On game day at Air Canada Centre the fans file in and take their seats and that is when the cheering and chanting begins. As the clock winds down closer and closer to the dropping of the puck the crowd works itself into a frenzy. Finally both teams are ready for face off and the excitement really begins. Thunderous, bone rattling hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, powerful slapshots, and tremendous saves set the arena on fire for the following three periods of world class college hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip. Everything is ratcheted up a notch during the NHL playoffs and the further teams advance the more intense the competition becomes. If you thought regular season NHL games were exciting, just wait until you experience an NHL playoff game live and in person.

NHL Eastern Conference Atlantic Division

The Atlantic Division is comprised of eight teams: the Boston Bruins, the Buffalo Sabres, the Detroit Red Wings, the Florida Panthers, the Montreal Canadiens, the Ottawa Senators, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Many of the teams in the division are among the top franchises in the history of the NHL including the Montreal Canadiens who have won 24 Stanley Cup Championships. The Boston Bruins are the most recent current member of the division to have won a Stanley Cup, having done so in 2010. The Atlantic Division is in some ways new to the NHL after the 2013 realignment when the former Atlantic Division was renamed the Northeast Division and the current Atlantic Division was created out of teams the Northeast Division, the Southeast Division, and the Central Division. From the 2013-2014 season on look for the newly reconstructed Atlantic Division to be one of the premiere divisions not only in the Eastern Conference but in the entire NHL.

Trivia

Legendary Maple Leafs center Mats Sundin is the all time leading points scorer for the Toronto Maple Leafs with a career total of 987 points. During their first two years in the NHL the Leafs were known as the Toronto Arenas before changing their name to the Toronto St. Patricks from 1919 through 1927 when they permanently decided on the Toronto Maple Leafs. The franchise is affiliated with two minor league hockey teams, the Toronto Marlies and the Orlando Solar Bears. Tickets to see the Toronto Maple Leafs are among the hardest to get in the NHL no matter how the team is faring on the ice. They sold out every game at their previous home, Maple Leaf Gardens, from from 1946 through 1999 when the team moved to Air Canada Centre.
