Toronto Raptors Latest News

The Raptors have won three of their last four and should be able to continue that hot streak this week. They play three winnable games hosting Orlando on Monday night and Brooklyn on Wednesday before a trip to Detroit on Friday. They are at their best when they play solid defense (10-0 when holding teams under 100 points) and they allowed the Knicks just 90 points in overtime Sunday night. Guard Kyle Lowry is the only player in the NBA averaging 21 points and at least 10 assists in December. All-Star DeMar DeRozan remains out indefinitely with a torn groin tendon. Even without him, the Raptors are second in the NBA in scoring (107.9). – Randy Renner

Toronto Raptors Schedule in 2014-15

The Toronto Raptors are ready to claw their way to the top this season as they take on some of the toughest teams that the National Basketball Association has to offer. The Raptors are coming off a 2013-14 season that saw them make the playoffs for the first time in a while. Things really came together for the Raptors last season, and they're looking to build on that success in 2014-15 and set up for a deep playoff run. With a slew of productive players on the roster, the Raptors look poised to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this season if things go well.

The Raptors can't wait to host the Brooklyn Nets this season, as the Raptors and Nets had a knock-down, drag-out series in the first round of the playoffs last year. The Nets ultimately emerged victorious in seven games after the final contest came down to the last play. The Raptors are ready to exact their revenge on the Nets, especially bulldog point guard Kyle Lowry, who has his potential game-winning shot stuffed at the last second of the game.

Toronto will also be looking forward to seeing the Cleveland Cavaliers come to town this season. The Cavs have LeBron James back on board, so these games will be huge draws for an NBA fan. With James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving leading the way for Cleveland, they're going to be extremely tough to take down. The Raptors will look to play good defense and test the defensive limitation of this Cleveland team. Any matchup with the Cavs is sure to bring in the fans in boatloads. Be there to catch all of the action for yourself, and don't forget to look at the rest of the matchups on the schedule.

Toronto Raptors Team Info

The Toronto Raptors went on quite the run down the stretch last season, good enough to earn them the top spot in the Atlantic Division and the third-best record in the Eastern Conference. The Raptors were unable to take down the Brooklyn Nets in a heated first-round series, but are back in 2014-15 with the goal of advancing further into the postseason this time around. The Raptors took care of their first priority this offseason, re-signing point guard Kyle Lowry. Lowry had shown flashes of being a very good point guard in previous stops around the league, but he finally put it all together in 2013-14, becoming the leader on the floor for this Toronto team and putting up the numbers to back it up. Lowry is a tenacious competitor that desperately wants to win, and his teammates seems to be embracing his intensity on the court. The Raptors also re-signed key role players such as Patrick Patterson Greives Vasquez, who were a big part of the team's success last season. Toronto made quite the stir on draft night this offseason when they selected Brazilian forward Bruno Caboclo in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft. The Raptors could be hoping that Caboclo is more ready to contribute than originally thought, much like Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo was last season. Toronto should be in a position to compete for a top spot in the conference ranks yet again this season, with veterans like DeMar DeRozan and Amir Johnson providing stability around the stable of young talent north of the border.

The National Basketball Association is the premier basketball league in the entire world, and that means you'll find all the best players on the planet suiting up for action in the NBA. When you're there in the Air Canada Centre to see a Toronto Raptors game you'll be treated to seeing some amazing players run up and down the court, hitting deep three-pointers and throwing down thunderous dunks.

Toronto Raptors Trivia

Where did Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry attend college?

The answer is Villanova, where he played for just one season before entering his name in the NBA Draft. Lowry was viewed as a player that could have used another year in college to become a Top 10 pick, but he was still selected in the first round of the draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. He bounced around a bit before finding a home in Toronto, where he has become one of the top guards in the game. The Raptors rewarded his hard work and tenacious play on the court this past offseason with a big contract to keep him a part of the organization.

Toronto Raptors History

The Toronto Raptors were founded in 1995 as an expansion franchise of the National Basketball Association. The team quickly found success thanks to top draft picks like Marcus Camby and Damon Stoudemire. The organization found its first superstar player in Vine Carter, whom the team acquired on a draft day trade with the Golden State Warriors. Carter mad many great seasons in Toronto before moving on via trade. The Raptors have only won one division title, coming in 2007, but are hoping to earn some more division crowns in the near future. This team is looking to build a foundation that can support sustained success in the best basketball league in the world, not an easy task.

Toronto Raptors Fans

The fans of the Toronto Raptors don't just live in Toronto, but all over Canada, as the Raptors are the only team to play north of the border. The Raptors always fight hard on the court, especially at home in front of their loyal fans. The Raptors know that they're going to be supported every time they take to their home court, and it makes for a fantastic home-court advantage as well. If you've never been out to see the Toronto Raptors in person, then this is the season to change that. Take to the stands with the biggest Toronto hoops fans for an incredible time at the arena.
