Tribal Theory Background
Dominic Blas, Richard Duenas and A.J. Blount started
out as members of Kaleo O'Nalani - a Polynesian dance group formed in San Diego. They were also members of Imahen Taotao Tano,
a Guamanian cultural dance troupe. The performers began playing ukulele and guitar around bonfires and at backyard parties.
They eventually became Tribal Theory when singer Seuko "Ku" Hawkins came aboard along with Paul Bowen (keyboardist) and Nico
Tuilesu (drummer). The heritage of many of the members can be traced back to Guam. Since 2005, Tribal Theory has served as
the opening acts for outfits like Collie Buddz, Natural Vibrations, One Drop, Katchafire, Ten Feet and Ekolu. They dropped
their eponymous EP in the spring of 2011 and followed it up with an appearance at the San Diego stop of the Vans Warped Tour
that summer. In the beginning of 2012, they issued the track, "DeJaVu," which was trailed by a tour of Guam. Hell of a Night
arrived in 2012 as their first full-length studio album and claimed the Best World Music Album award at the 2013 San Diego
Music Awards ceremony.
