UAB Blazers Football Schedule

The Blazers of Birmingham, Alabama are well on their way to a memorable 2014 season, having gotten off to an impressive 4-2 start overall including a 2-1 start in Conference USA that has them placed firmly atop the conference standings. There are still several big games left on the schedule providing the Blazers with a great opportunity to earn some quality victories and make a move to the top of the conference standings. The Blazers will be looking to pull off some big wins as they try to maintain their position near the top of the Conference USA East Division. Be sure to get your tickets for the UAB Blazers from StubHub as soon as possible so you can get some of the best seats in the house.

UAB has a big game against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on November 8th at Legion Field in Birmingham. This game is typically one of the biggest of the year and comes as Louisiana Tech sits atop the West Division standings and UAB is trying to supplant Marshall at the top of the West Division. The rivalry between UAB and Louisiana Tech always makes for a thrilling game but this year's should be even better than usual as they are neck and neck in their respective divisions. Another huge division game comes to Legion Field when the Marshall Thundering Herd make the trip to Birmingham. The Thundering Herd are currently undefeated in the conference and sit just a game ahead of the Dragons in the Conference USA East standings. This game is not only the last home game of the year for UAB but also could be the deciding factor in who goes on to compete for the conference championship. This will be your last chance to see the team at home and help cheer them on to a victory while also giving them a big send off before they hopefully go on to compete for another Conference USA championship.

The Team

The history of UAB Blazers football dates back to 1989 when the program began as organized club games. Two years later the Blazers got their first coach, Jim Hilyer, and began competing at the Division III level. After their first season in Division II the Blazers moved up to Division II. Shortly after that the Blazers were notified that they had met the requirements to begin playing at the Division I level and played as an independent in the 1996 season. In 1999 the Blazers joined Conference USA which has been their home ever since. The 2000 Blazers team really served notice to the rest of Division I NCAA Football when they went into Baton Rouge and defeated the LSU Tigers. In 2004 the Blazers made their first, and so far only, Bowl Game appearance when they went to the Hawaii Bowl where they lost a thrilling shootout against the hometown team Hawaii by the score of 59-40. This year is the UAB Blazers' first under new head coach Bill Clark who has led the team to a 4-2 start and infused Blazers football with a new sense of excitement. Big things are on the horizon for the Blazers and you will want to be there throughout the 2014 season to cheer them on.

The Experience

When the Blazers hit the gridiron for an exhilarating match up against one of their most bitter rivals, you will immediately see the difference between seeing them on your big TV and being there in the the stands. Once you have seen the game the way it was meant to be seen, the TV experience suddenly becomes completely inadequate. Be there for all of the hard-hitting college football action, from highlight reel runs and eye-popping catches to clutch throws that will have you jumping out of your seat in no time. With a game loaded with players that know how to put on a show, you'll see first-hand why the college football has become the cream of the crop in American sports. There is nothing quite like seeing college football alongside tens of thousands of fans, and that's definitely the case when it comes to seeing the UAB Blazers. As always, UAB Blazers tickets are available at StubHub, the best place to go to find tickets for all of the biggest college football games. Before you know it, the Blazers are methodically driving down the field with the clock winding down late in the fourth quarter, as the intensity rises with each snap of the ball and fans eagerly anticipate the outcome. We all know you can follow the action on your smart phone or watch from a bar down the street, but it is a completely different level of experience to be there to watch all the drama unfold before your very eyes. By the time the game is over you will want to start making plans for your next trip to Legion Field.

UAB Blazers Football Conference

The UAB Blazers have been members of Conference USA since 2005 and have since been developing rivalries within the conference. There are thirteen universities in Conference USA for football which are divided into two divisions. The West Division contains Louisiana Tech, Rice, UTEP, North Texas, Southern Miss, and UTSA, while the East division is made up of Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Old Dominion, Marshall, UAB, and Western Kentucky. The 2014 season is the first in which the conference has been split up into two different divisions and it should be exciting to see how the conference plays out this year. There have been several changes within the conference in recent years with the addition of new teams and the implementation of the division system but these changes have only proven to make Conference USA more exciting and competitive.

The UAB Blazers have had several players go on to have careers in the NFL including Matt McCants, Bryan Thomas, Joe Webb, Chris Hubbard, and Darren Reeves. However, probably the most notable former Blazer is the superstar wide receiver from the Atlanta Falcons, Roddy White.
