UC Riverside's sports teams are known as the Highlanders. Surprisingly, their mascot is a bear. The name was chosen because Riverside's campus is the highest in elevation of any UC school. The Bear is named Scotty, a reference to the Scottish highlands. The basketball team plays all of their home games at the UC Riverside Student Recreation Center, which has a maximum capacity of about 3,200.
