About Under the Streetlamp
Michael Ingersoll, Christopher Kale Jones, Shonn Wiley and Michael
Cunio have all previously starred in productions of the popular musical, Jersey Boys, which dramatizes the formation, success
and eventual split of the 1960′s rock-and-roll group, The Four Seasons. Under the Streetlamp also bring great music
to the spotlight, serving up a cocktail of rock, Motown and doo-wop classics. Fashioned in Rat Pack-style, Under the Streetlamp
covers the tunes that made the '40s, '50s and '60s great. In an interview with the Chicago Sun Times, Michael Ingersoll said,
"The show is what I would call the American Radio Songbook from the '40s to the '60s. But all the songs we do have been specially
orchestrated for us, for our voices, for our harmonies. We're doing songs by the Beatles, the Drifters, the Beach Boys, Etta
James, Sam Cooke, Elvis and, of course, the Four Seasons. We take the music very seriously but not ourselves, so there's this
rich, lighthearted banter, very much in the same vein as the Rat Pack." And, even though the foursome all worked together
in Jersey Boys, Ingersoll made it clear that Under the Streetlamp offers something unique. Ingersoll said, "We're very careful
to let people know that, yes, we all met during Jersey Boys, but please don't confuse what we're doing now with that part
of our lives. What we do now has nothing to do with Jersey Boys. This is not an extension of that. It's a departure. We haven't
borrowed anything that doesn't belong to us."
Under the Streetlamp Trivia
Do you know why this musical
act is billed as Under the Streetlamp? The members believe the name represents Americana. "For us, that simple image epitomizes
all the joy, intimacy and passion wrapped up in the era of music we like to call the 'American Radio Songbook.' Thoroughly
diverse and infused with an indomitable spirit, this music is iconically American."
Under the Streetlamp Experience
before VH1 and iTunes, people relied on their radios for introductions to music of the day. It didn't matter that there were
just a few stations to choose from. While that idea is hard to grasp in today's day and age, for music lovers of the era,
the radio was a godsend. Throughout the '40s, '50s and '60s the nation overflowed with swing, blues, country, jazz and of
course, rock and roll. All you had to do was turn the dial of the radio to listen to tunes like "Hey Jude" by the Beatles
or "Save the Last Dance" by Sam Cooke. Under the Streetlamp highlights this music, strolling down memory lane with all the
classics that defined an unforgettable era. Under the Streetlamp conjures up the images of families gathering together on
the front porch or congregating on the stoop to share in the joys of music.
No matter what your preference for music,
Under the Streetlamp gives audiences the songs that you know by heart. It preserves the music that your parents grew up with
simultaneously adding a breath of fresh air to these classics.
