Charlotte 49ers Basketball History
The Charlotte 49ers have been playing college basketball
since 1965 and have made the NCAA Tournament 11 times, most recently in 2005. they experienced success early on with the university's
1977 team making it all the way to the Final Four. With some exciting players who can light it the scoreboard in a hurry,
the 49ers definitely aren't going to go quietly in Conference USA this season. Be a part of what could be one of the most

The Charlotte 49ers play in Conference USA which has long been one of the best mid-major conferences
in the country. Many casual college basketball fans who only tune in for the NCAA Tournament may be unaware of the storied
history of Conference USA, but true college hoops fanatics are well aware of the level of competition in the conference each
year. The conference is currently made up of 14 teams for basketball: UAB, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Florida International,
Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Old Dominion, Rice, Southern Miss, UTEP, UTSA, and Western Kentucky.
Of all the teams currently in the conference, Western Kentucky leads the way with 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, although
they were all before the university joined Conference USA. Last season Conference USA was one of the most closely contended
conferences in the country with four teams, Southern Miss, Louisiana, Tech, Middle Tennessee, and Tulsa all finishing at the
top of the regular season standings with 13-3 records. Ultimately it was Tulsa who emerged as the conference tournament champions
after defeating Louisiana Tech in the tournament championship game and earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Tulsa
was the only school to earn a Tournament berth as a 13 seed and were defeated by UCLA in a close Round of 64 game. This year
the conference will once again be up for grabs and the games between Tulsa and Louisiana Tech should be especially fun to
