UNLV Rebels Football Schedule

The teams in the Mountain West Conference are extremely competitive and the action in the early weeks of the 2014 season proves that it is anyone's conference this year. In 2013, the UNLV Running Rebel's season ended with their first bowl game berth since 2000. Though they lost in the Heart of Dallas Bowl to North Texas, things are definitely looking up for the UNLV football program. New Rebels quarterback Blake Decker is off to a hot start and the fans can't wait to see what the boy with the golden arm has in store for the rest of the season. Wide receiver Devante Davis is picking up right where he left off in 2013, when he scored 14 touchdowns. Davis recently torched the Northern Illinois Huskies for 150 years and 2 touchdowns. There is a ton of talent on the roster this season and this deep lineup is ready to take on all of the foes left on their tough schedule.

The current Mountain West Champion Fresno State Bulldogs are coming to Sam Boyd Stadium on October 11 to take on the home team. UNLV will need to win games against the best in the conference if they want to unseat the champion. The Bulldogs finished the 2013 season as the #20 team in the country and was also the #1 passing team in the NCAA. With quarterback Derek Carr now the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, the Bulldogs will be in the same position as the Running Rebels with new quarterbacks taking control of their offenses in 2014. This is a matchup that fans of both teams certainly won't want to miss, so grab your tickets at StubHub today for this exciting game at Sam Boyd Stadium before it sells out.

The most important game on the UNLV Rebels schedule every season is their matchup with their in state rivals, the Nevada Wolfpack, known as the Battle for Nevada. The rivalry has been thrilling football fans in the state since 1969, and the 2014 edition of the rivalry will be no different. When the Wolfpack visit Sam Boyd Stadium on November 29, the game may mean more than just who will be hoisting the famed Fremont Cannon at the end of the season. The Mountain West Conference is neck and neck already this season and wins down the stretch will mean everything to all of the teams competing for the conference title. With state bragging rights on the table as well as possibly a bowl berth, this rivalry game is sure to be one for the ages.

The Conference

The Mountain West Conference has seen some changes to their roster over the last few years, as have many of the conferences across the country. Currently, the Mountain West Conference is stacked with tons of talent and teams like the San Diego State Aztecs, Boise State Broncos, Fresno State Bulldogs, UNLV Rebels, Nevada Wolfpack and Colorado State Rams, and these programs have been known for crashing the major conferences championship hopes many times over the last few years. In 2002, ESPN created the Bowl Challenge Cup to tally how many bowl games each conference wins during the bowl season each year. Since its inception, the Mountain West Conference has won the challenge four times, more than any other conference. The Mountain West Conference has proven that when they matchup against teams in other conferences, they are as good as any team in the country.

Within the conference, teams scratch and claw for every win they can and the rivalries within the conference run deep. One rivalry that has a long history that may not be known outside of the region is the Border Battle between the Colorado State Rams and the Wyoming Cowboys. These two programs met for the first time in 1899 and have clashed more than one hundred times in their histories. The winner of the Border Battle takes home the Bronze Boot, a trophy that has incredible value to the two sides, and its roots date back to the Vietnam War. There is no better time to be a fan of the Mountain West Conference and 2014 is looking like a banner year already.

UNLV Rebels Football Rivalries

When it comes to college football rivalries in Nevada, there is none more intense than the one between the UNLV Rebels and the University of Nevada Wolfpack. The rivalry is known as the Battle for Nevada and has been played since 1969, with the winner holding on to the Fremont Cannon as well as bragging rights for the year. In 2013, the UNLV Running Rebels finally took the cannon back to Las Vegas after an 8 year run in Reno. This rivalry thrills fans throughout Nevada and UNLV is proving that this is no longer a one sided rivalry. The Fremont Cannon has been heating up since 2012, when the Wolfpack joined the Rebels in the Mountain West Conference. Now that this in-state rivalry has become a conference game, the stakes are even higher for both teams and fanbases.
