Upcoming Events

The U.S. Men's National Soccer Team features the best soccer players in the United States of America. This team often faces off with the best national teams in the world in some of the biggest events on the planet. 2014 features soccer's biggest event, the World Cup, a prestigious, month-long soccer tournament that is held every four years and considered the cream of the crop in soccer tournaments. This event, featuring all of the best national soccer teams on the planet, will be held from June 12th to July 13th. The 2014 World Cup will be the 20th occurrence of this prestigious soccer tournament.

The U.S. National team was able to perform reasonably well in the previous World Cup in 2010, finishing in 12th place in the tournament. Team officials are hoping the presence of new head coach Jurgen Klinsman can help catapult United States Soccer to the upper echelon of the world's soccer hierarchy. Spain was able to win the World Cup last time around, and remain one of the favorites to take home the hardware in 2014.

When it's all said and done, only one team will be left standing on the summit of the soccer world, basking in the glory of being known as the best soccer team on Earth. This is the kind of event that every young soccer player dreams of partaking in, but only a special few make it to the highest of levels in the sport. Everyone's emotions are running high for the month or so that this event is being played, from the players and coaches to the fans at home and watching live in the stadium. If the U.S. National team is able to win the entire tournament, it would be one of the biggest moments in the sporting history of the country.

The beginnings of the United States Men's Soccer Team can be traced back to 1884, when the United States and Canada faced off in the first international soccer match to be played outside of the United Kingdom. The first official match that the country would play as U.S. Soccer, though, wouldn't be played until 1914 when the United States took on Sweden. The U.S. won that match by a score of 3-2. The U.S. Soccer team participated in the first World Cup in 1930, and were able to reach the semifinals before falling to defeat Argentina. The team made the World Cup again in 1934 and 1950, but was then marred by a World Cup qualification drought that would last until 1990. Aside from their third place finish in the 1930 event, the U.S. National Team's best finish in the World Cup came in 2002 when they were able to earn 8th place.
