The tournament action will be played over the course of four days spanning from June 12th to June 15th, though there will be play on June 16th if a playoff is necessary. There is much more going on in the days leading up to the tournament as fans have the opportunity of being treated to practice rounds the week leading up to the opening round, giving you another chance to see these guys on a completely different level than you can watching from home. Whether you plan on attending one day or every day of the US Open, it is sure to be an experience you will never forget full of excitement and nail-biting moments that you'll be talking about long after it's over.

2014 U.S. Open Golfers

Many of the biggest names in the history of the sport have won at the US Open including Ben Hogan, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Fuzzy Zoeller, Arnold Palmer, and more. This year's list of players is sure to be filled with many of the best golfers in the world looking to prove their worth as they hope to make some clutch shots and make a run to the top of the leader board. The best golfers in the world definitely don't ever want to miss this one, which is why you should have the same mentality if you're a golf fan looking to see this classic sport played at the highest possible level. Fan favorite Rory McElroy will surely be looking to turn up the heat this year at the US Open, as he already has two major championships at his young age. McElroy always draws a big crowd when he's on the course, and for good reason. Aussie Adam Scott is another golfer that has a growing following, as he has been playing the best golf of his career over the last couple of years. The lefty has shown the ability to win major championships, and many fans will be waiting to see if he has what it takes to take home the trophy for this event this year. These are just some of the great golfers that will be a part of the field.

2014 U.S. Open History

The first US Open was held in 1895 at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island, a nine-hole course, and the ten contestants played thirty six holes on a single day. These days the field at the US Open consists of 156 total players, making for unique blend of the most explosive talent that you're going to find anywhere. Amateurs are able to qualify as long as they have a proven handicap less than 1.4 and can either compete in qualifying events successfully or receiving an exemption. With a blend of the stars of both today and tomorrow, it doesn't get any better than the U.S. Open, a place where dreams tend to come true and the fans are the ultimate winners each and every spring.

2014 U.S. Open Trivia

Did you know that John McDermott was once the youngest golfer to ever win the U.S. Open?

All the way back in 1911, when this tournament was still in the phases of taking off, McDermott etched his name in the annals by shooting his way to the title, making it just the second time an American had won the U.S. Open. Before that, it was Scottish golfers who dominated, which makes sense considering it's practically a birth right there, but it was with McDermott that the Americans started to catch up. American golfers would win seven straight titles including McDermott, and since then it's been a melting pot of golf talent from all over the world as this tournament continues to expand and grow its legacy.

Golf played at this level is something that you have to see first-hand if you want to have any hope of truly appreciating it, as you'll end up with a completely different level of experience that simply towers over the home experience.

These days we all know that there are plenty of ways to follow the action – you can even just catch the scores on your smart phone – but fans know that there is something special about being there alongside thousands of your fellow fans for all the clutch moments of one of the most important tournaments of the golf year.
