Women's US Open Championships LPGA Tour

The US Open which was established in 1946 is the oldest major on the women's side of the sport and has been recognized by the LPGA since it was founded in 1950. It is one of the most prestigious events on the tour and gets bigger and bigger each year, as does the purse going to the champion. The 2013 champion, Inbee Park took home $585,000 and established herself as one of the top female golfers on the planet. Past winners of the tournament include some of the biggest names in the history of women's golf such as Babe Zaharias, Mickey Wright, Susie Berning, Hollis Stacy, Annika Sorenstam, Inbee Park, and others. Both amateurs and professionals are able to qualify for the US Open and participate in a one day 36 hole qualifying round, amateurs must have a handicap of 4.4 or lower to participate. There is no age limit at the US Open and the 2014 tournament will feature the youngest golfer yet to qualify for the event, 11 year old Lucy Li.

The Golfers

Several of the biggest luminaries in the history of the sport have won at the US Open including Annika Sorenstam, Inbee Park, Babe Zaharias, and more. The 2014 roster is already comprised of several of the most well known golfers in the world looking to take home the championship. Obviously women's golf's biggest superstars are well aware that this is one of the most important tournaments on the tour and they all know that it will be held on one of the premiere courses in the world and when you set foot in the grandstands you will understand why. Being invited to play at the US Open or qualifying as an amateur is an honor in and of itself for golfers of any level and one of the best things about the US Open is finding out which little known golfer separates herself from the pack and sets herself on the path to golf superstardom. From the best known golfers in the world looking to add to their legacy to the up and comers hoping to make a name for themselves, every golfer at the US Open gives it their all to make an impression and take home the trophy and the experience for fans in attendance is unforgettable.

The Experience

Watching golf at home from the comfort of your couch can be exciting but you really can't get a complete understanding of what the golfers are going through or the nervous tension in the air without being on the links for yourself. Spending a beautiful summer day outside walking an incredible course while seeing the best golfers in the world battle one another is an experience you will never forget and one which will likely have you wanting to never have to settle for watching from your couch again. As the days and holes wear on, the drama builds and each stroke becomes more and more vital. The nervous tension in the air builds and this can be felt both by the golfers swinging their clubs and the fans following them from hole to hole holding their breath with each approach to the ball.

The US Open was predominantly an event for golfers from the United States, but the 2007 tournament was the first in which there were more international golfers than Americans.
