Usher Raymond IV spent most of his childhood in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where his mother first encouraged
his singing by placing him in the local youth choir. He was just nine years old at the time, but immediately people recognize
that the young Usher was a phenomenal singer. Because of Usher's incredible talent, his mother decided to move the family
to Atlanta, Georgia, in the hopes that his life in a bigger city would help Usher break into the music industry. When he was
11 years old, Usher joined a local R&B group called the NuBeginnings, with whom he recorded ten songs. However, his mother
felt that being a part of this group was a bad experience for the young Usher, so she pulled him out. That didn't signal the
end of his attempts at music, however, and two years later Usher competed on Star Search.
Thanks to Star Search, Usher
attracted the attention of numerous industry executives, and he soon signed a recording contract with LaFace Records. In 1994,
he released his self-titled debut album, which was largely produced by Sean "P Diddy" Combs. The album was quite a success,
reaching number 25 on the Billboard Hip Hop and R&B charts and spawning singles like "Can U Get Wit It", "Think of You",
and "The Many Ways". His next album fared even better. My Way was released in 1997, and it featured major hits like "You Make
Me Wanna…" and "Nice and Slow". This album not only scored Usher his first platinum certification, but it also earned
him several awards and accolades.
With each new album he released, the more famous he became. Usher quickly surpassed
most other R&B artists and claimed the spot for the most popular R&B artist in music. Music lovers of all genres adored
his hit songs like "You Remind Me", "Caught Up", and "My Boo", and his songs consistently scored high spots on international
music charts. Throughout his career, Usher has become one of the most awarded artists in all of music. He has won eight Grammys,
eight American Music Awards, 20 Billboard Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, nine Soul Train Music Awards, two People's Choice
Awards, and many more. In all, Usher has taken home 81 awards over the course of his career, making him one of the most acclaimed
artists in music. Not only can he crank out one hit R&B song after another, but he can also put on a rousing performance
