The University of Texas at El Paso football team plays in the competitive Conference USA football conference. The UTEP
Miners finished the 2010 season ranked fourth in the West Division of the Conference USA with a record of 6-7. For the 2011
season, the UTEP Miners will be aiming to move up in the Conference USA standings.
The history of the UTEP Miners football program began in 1914. Since then, the UTEP Miners have made quite the mark on
NCAA football and beyond. They
have made many bowl appearances including in the Sun Bowl, Independence Bowl, GMAC Bowl, New Mexico Bowl and others. Many
players from the UTEP Miners have also gone on to make an impact on the NFL.
The UTEP Miners football team has quite the home in Sun
Bowl Stadium. Sun Bowl Stadium was built in 1963 and at the time had a capacity of 30,000. Since then, it has undergone
many renovations, including one in 1982 that increase the capacity to 52,000. In addition to being the home venue of the UTEP
Miners, Sun Bowl Stadium also hosts the Sun Bowl, among other athletic events.
