Vancouver Whitecaps History
The Vancouver Whitecaps have been a member of Major League
Soccer since 2009 and they took part in their first season in 2011. The team won just six games that season, but a foundation
was being laid for a franchise just getting its start in pro soccer. The team fared much better in 2012, posting the fifth-best
record in their conference and reaching the postseason for the first time. The team would miss the postseason in 2013, narrowly
missing out on the final spot in the postseason. However, 2013 was not without its highlights, as the Whitecaps took home
the Cascadia Cup. The Cascadia Cup was created by fans of the three Pacific Northwest teams- the Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle
Sounders FC and the Portland Timbers. Soccer is incredibly popular in the Pacific Northwest, and these three fan bases know
each other well, and have long before their time in the MLS. The Cup is given to the team that not only comes away with the
best record against the two other teams, but also wins categories like goal differential, points scored and lack of red and
yellow cards. The Whitecaps are eagerly awaiting their first playoff victory, and the organization is working towards building
a roster that can compete for the MLS Cup.
