Vanderbilt Commodores Football Schedule

The history of the Vanderbilt Commodores football team dates all the way back to 1890 and every year when the college football season begins Nashville, Tennessee becomes one of the most exciting football towns in the country. In 2013 Vanderbilt finished fourth in the SEC East with a 4-4 conference record and a 9-4 overall record. The two highlights of the Commodores' 2-13 season were a 31-27 win a number 15 Georgia, and a season ending 41-24 whooping of the Houston Cougars at the BBVA Compass Bowl. The 2014 season looks to be an improvement on last year and the Commodores should be able to get back above.500 in conference play. It is never easy in the SEC but the Commodores have a strong core returning along with some exciting recruits that could well make this a banner year for Vanderbilt.

The home schedule kicks off on August 26th at Vanderbilt Stadium with a game against the visiting Temple Owls. Opening day at Vanderbilt Stadium is an event not to be missed as tens of thousands of Nashville's biggest football fans flock to Vanderbilt Stadium to get the first glimpse of their favorite team. Two great games close out the 2014 home schedule at Vanderbilt Stadium. The first of these two is on November 8th against the Florida Gators who are always a formidable foe and are regularly in the hunt for a national championship. This could be a huge game for both teams if they are both still vying for a spot in the SEC Championship Game. The final home game is on Saturday, November 9th against the hated in state rivals the Tennessee Volunteers. There is definitely no love lost between Vandy and Tennessee and whenever these two universities meet on the gridiron fans can expect both sides to leave it all on the field in a knock down, drag out fight. Take a look at Vanderbilt's entire home schedule on StubHub to see when you can make it out to a game in 2014.

The Team

The Vanderbilt Commodores are a Division I football team that plays in the Southeast Conference (SEC). The SEC is generally considered to be the best and most challenging conference in the entire nation, so fans follow teams in the SEC very closely on an annual basis. The Commodores finished the 2013 season with very good 9-4 overall record, battled through SEC play finishing with a 4-4 record. A 4-4 record in a conference as competition as the SEC is nothing to scoff at. The Commodores have their sights set at the top of the conference standings this season, and with some new talented recruits ready to contribute this season they could have what it takes to rise in the ranks of the SEC. Things could look a little different for the Commodores this season as they will be led by new head coach Derek Mason. He is not in the typical position of new coaches who come o a faltering program. Mason inherits a great team which was built by James Franklin who left the program to coach at Penn State. More new blood will be infused to the program in the form of top notch recruits defensive tackle Nifae Lealao and running back Dallas Rivers who both could have a big impact during their freshman season. Be there from the start as the Commodores enter a new era in the 2014 season.
