METROLINK TRAIN SERVICE Auto racing fans can see their favorite drivers and avoid raceday traffic congestion by taking trains to California Speedway. California Speedway has its own train station located on site. Trains will operate to California Speedway on all three major race weekends in 2002: March 22-24 for the Indy Racing League; April 26-28 for NASCAR Winston Cup; and November 1-3 for Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART). On Fridays and Saturdays of each race weekend, trains on Metrolink s San Bernardino line will make special stops at California Speedway Station. For precise times and fares call Metrolink at (800) 371-LINK. Generally speaking on Friday, most trains after the morning rush hour will have station stops at California Speedway. On Saturday all trains will stop except those that would pass by California Speedway after 5:30 PM. For travel on Fridays and Saturdays, purchase a round trip ticket from the Metrolink Ticket Vending Machine located at each San Bernardino Line station. You must have your round trip ticket since no ticket machines are available at California Speedway Station. Upon arrival at California Speedway Station proceed to the tram loading area for your free ride to the grandstands. On Sundays regularly scheduled Metrolink trains on the San Bernardino Line will also make special stops at California Speedway Station. Again, purchase a round trip ticket from your San Bernardino Line station. This ticket entitles you to ride the regular Metrolink trains only. In addition to the regular Sunday Metrolink trains operating between Los Angeles and San Bernardino, the San Bernardino Associated Governments charters Metrolink trains to operate from all major trains stations throughout Southern California directly to California Speedway. These charter trains will originate from Oxnard, Simi Valley, Oceanside, Lancaster, Irvine and 38 other trains stations. The Sunday Metrolink charter trains are only available for purchase through Amtrak. Metrolink ticket vending machine tickets are not valid on these extra-fare trains. If you purchase your tickets by e-mail or phone up to 11 days before the race, Amtrak will mail them to you at no additional cost. Groups of four or more qualify for a 10% discount. Call (800) USA-RAIL and order your tickets. Amtrak tickets are also available at every staffed Amtrak station throughout the United States and most travel agencies. All Sunday charter trains depart California Speedway at fixed times. When you purchase your ticket for the NASCAR event, be sure and select your preferred departure time. All IRL and CART trains depart at 4:45 PM. For a Speedway Train brochure, either visit the Los Angeles Union Station Metrolink Window and request one or call (909) 889-8611, X126 and leave your name and address.
