Edward C. Christl, the man the Christl Arena is named after, led his team through a flawless season in his senior year, with the Black Knights scoring 15-0. Besides basketball, several other athletic events are occasionally held at the Christl Arena, including volleyball games and gymnastics tournaments. In 1999, the Christl Arena hosted the quarter final and semifinal rounds of the Patriot’s League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Christl Arena is part of the Holleder Center, an athletic facility for the United States Military Academy in West Point. The Black Knights, the men’s and women’s sports teams for the Academy, host their games there. Christl Arena is named after 1st Lieutenant Edward C. Christl. Christl Jr., a basketball captain, was killed in combat during World War II.
