When Pepperdine University moved to Malibu in 1972, the Firestone Fieldhouse was also build. The first game was a men’s basketball game in 1973. The fieldhouse was officially dedicated in 1975 by then President Gerald R. Ford. It is named after the major donor for the project, Leonard K. Firestone and was designed by architect Richard L Dorman.
The Firestone Fieldhouse is a gymnasium that is the home court for Pepperdine University’s men’s basketball team, women’s basketball team, men’s volleyball team and women’s basketball teams. There are also concerts, lectures and graduations held at the Firestone Fieldhouse. It can seat over 3,000 for athletic events and 5,000 for concerts and other events.
